Formerly known as Khalifatabad, the historic city of Bagerhat is located in south-west Bangladesh. It was founded in the 15th century by the Turkish general Ulugh Khan Jahan. The city is renowned for its large concentration of mosques and Islamic monuments. More than 50 monuments are part of the Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat, such as the Shat Gambuj Mosque (Sixty Pillar Mosque), the Tomb of Khan Jahan, the Khan Jahan Ali's Mosque, the Nine Domed Mosque, the Singar Mosque, the Chuna Khola Mosque, the Ronvijoypur Mosque, the Reza Khoda Mosque and the Binat Bibi Mosque.
