La Lonja de la Seda or Silk Exchange was built between 1482 and 1533. The complex which was inspired by a similar structure in Palma de Mallorca, consists of four main parts : the Trading Hall - the main body of the complex designed by the architect Pere Compte - the Tower including the Chapel, the Consulado and a garden called the Courtyard of the Orange Trees. The Lonja de la Seda is considered one of the best examples of Gothic civil architecture in Europe. UNESCO WHS in 1996
